In My Breastfeeding Era: Liz, Founder of Mumba Bra

In My Breastfeeding Era: Celebrating every mum redefining what breastfeeding can look and feel like.

This week in In My Breastfeeding Era, we meet Liz, the founder of Mumba Bra. After a relatively smooth breastfeeding journey with her first baby, Liz assumed feeding her second would be much the same. Instead, she found herself navigating latch struggles, unsettled feeds and the mental load of caring for two children at once, all while trying to continue breastfeeding.

Those challenges revealed a gap. Liz did not need more complexity, she needed one simple, thoughtful solution. That realisation became the starting point for Mumba Bra.

Number of children?

I have two children.

How long have you been breastfeeding for in total?

40 months in total across my breastfeeding journeys.

What inspired you to start Mumba Bra?

Mumba was born entirely from my own breastfeeding experience. After a relatively smooth journey with my first baby, I assumed breastfeeding my second would be the same, but it wasn’t. She struggled to latch, was very unsettled, and I was juggling feeding alongside caring for another child.

I found myself overwhelmed, forgetting which side to feed from, dealing with engorgement, and relying on multiple DIY solutions just to keep going. I wanted to continue breastfeeding, but I needed something simpler. That’s when I realised there was a gap: one product with integrated, practical solutions that supported breastfeeding without adding complexity. That idea became the Mumba Bra.

What makes your product special for breastfeeding mums?

Most nursing bras are designed purely around function, unclipping, feeding, reclipping, without considering the experience of breastfeeding for either mum or baby. Mumba Bra is designed with the breastfeeding relationship in mind, to make the realities of feeding easier, more comfortable and more connected.

Every detail addresses the realities of feeding. It supports comfort during feeds, helps minimise distractions for baby and creates a calmer experience overall. The Modesty Panel gives mums confidence to feed anywhere without feeling exposed, while still allowing baby to stay connected. The Mumba Clasp supports overtired mums by helping them remember which side to feed from, without the need for extra accessories.

I created Mumba Bra because I know how many mums stop breastfeeding earlier than they want to, not because they aren’t trying, but because the day to day experience becomes too hard. Our goal is to remove some of those barriers so mums feel supported to breastfeed for as long as they choose.

What’s one thing you love about your own breastfeeding journey?

The bond and connection it created with my babies. Those quiet, skin to skin moments are memories I will treasure forever. Beyond the emotional closeness, I loved witnessing the power of breastmilk in action, from soothing nappy rash to helping my babies fight off the little challenges of being tiny and new to the world. Breastfeeding was both practical and profoundly nurturing, and those moments shaped our relationship in a way nothing else could.
