The silicone pump that catches your let-down — now with a softer feel and a spillproof twist.
Best for: collecting let-down on the opposite breast while feeding, gentle expression and travel
The original Haakaa silicone pump is one of those things that mums swear by — and the Gen. 2 Plus is the version that's been quietly made better. The same effortless suction that draws out milk while your baby feeds on the other side, but now with four interior moulded rings inside the flange that reduce friction and tugging against sensitive skin. Add in the SpillGUARD stopper — a removable insert that lets milk flow in but not out — and you've got a pump that won't undo itself the moment someone nudges the coffee table. No batteries, no noise, no fuss. Just pop it on, feed your baby, and let physics do the work.
Is this right for you?
Choose this if you want an easy, cable-free way to collect let-down milk during feeds without an electric pump. The Gen. 2 Plus is also brilliant for travel, family visits, or anyone with nipple sensitivity who found older versions uncomfortable.
Skip this if you need to build or maintain supply through regular expressing sessions — an electric pump will give you more control over output and volume.
Why it works
- ·ComfortCare flange — four moulded interior rings reduce friction on sensitive nipples
- ·SpillGUARD insert — lets milk flow in, not out. Accidental knocks, sorted
- ·Suction base — stays stable on flat surfaces while you feed
- ·100% food-grade silicone — no BPA, no batteries, no noise
- ·Works by continuous natural suction — attach, feed, collect. That's it
Why it's a Latchette favourite
The milk you'd otherwise lose into a breast pad, quietly collected while you feed. The Gen. 2 Plus upgrades an already brilliant concept with a gentler flange and a spill stopper that actually earns its name. One of the cleverest things in any breastfeeding kit.
How to get the most from it
- ·Give yourself a practice run before your first pumping session
- ·A warm compress and gentle massage can help encourage let-down
- ·Attach while your baby feeds on the opposite breast to catch the let-down reflex
- ·When full, empty into a sterilised container before continuing
- ·Pumping should never be painful — if it is, stop and check with your midwife or health visitor
Using it for engorgement?
Yes, it can help — but the key is to use it for comfort, not to fully drain. Because the pump works by continuous suction, leaving it on too long can signal your body to produce more milk, which can worsen engorgement over time. The goal is just enough relief to take the pressure off.
It's particularly useful for softening a very full breast so your baby can latch, or for relieving one side when your baby is only feeding on the other. Remove it as soon as the pressure eases. If engorgement is severe or persistent, your midwife or a lactation consultant can help.
